7x10 Mini Lathe Parts
I am not affiliated with any mfg or vendor of Mini Lathe. My own green colored Mini Lathe is the 7x10 MiniLathe which I purchased mail order from Harbor Freight in approximately 1997 for approximately $350. It came in a wooden slat crate and required much cleaning to remove all of the protective factory grease. The grease served its purpose of preventing rust and humidity during transport.
My page is also applicable to other brands and models such as 7x20 7x14 7x12 etc as it is often rebranded, painted various colors RED, Green, White, Beige, Yellow, Blue etc.
The lathe weighs approximatley 80lbs and is a bear to lift onto a workshop table/bench by yourself. I put mine on a DIY metal rectangle "plate" which keeps all of the tools and bits and accessories all in one messy area.
My mini-lathe area is always in dis-array as I use it all-of-time - it never sits idle for more than a few days between jobs.
One of the key tricks to making your lathe last longer is VERY SIMPLE
1. Powering it on/off properly is important
2. Replace simple things that wear prolongs delicate parts
I credit my long lasting lathe to my own carefulness. See I use the plastic on/off switch to turn it on or off. After a long while of many years use - this switch has become worn and hesitated to power on or off. There was a wiggle-factor in those two positions. It was tempting to just leave that switch on and just unplug the unit- HOWEVER THAT WOULD BE A MISTAKE
See when you plug-in a machine that is already on - that is a surge of power all-of-a-sudden. AND plugging the plug into an AC outlet has momentary split second on/off/on/off/on worse than power surges from the power company. That is because the ac plug prongs are physically being pushed into the electrical outlet. DONT DO THAT while machine is ON.
The on/off switch lasted me more than 20+ years of use without any cost in repairs. So I needed to change the switch out. And my replacement switch needed to be the same size/shape/neon glowing etc as before.
I chose a very nice rocker switch that Im very happy to use. It feels very similar to the original and you can just turn on/off the unit like it should be. The original switch was white plastic which has yellowed as old plastic does. I like the black plastic better as there is no yellowing with age.
The spade lugs are useable as push on connectors or you can solder onto them and then cover with DIY insulation. I choose to use terminals with covers (just the switch is sold here and you can solder or use push-on terminal on your own)
I suggest not using your Mini Lathe anymore until this part is replaced to prevent damage to other parts.

The vertical daughterboard which is located on the controller PCB contains the following 2ea IC chips which sometimes go bad which cause a perfectly good motor to not respond to the potentiometer/variable speed and or act like a dead motor or strangely acting motor.
The 2ea IC chips are marked HA17324
I suggest not using your Mini Lathe anymore until this part is replaced to prevent damage to other parts.

The controller PCB on older Mini Lathes have 2ea Mosfets which can sometimes go bad. Sometimes one goes bad and sometimes both go bad. I am selling 2ea Beefier Mosfets to replace the original ones. I am calling these IRFP460X in which the "X" can sometimes be another letter or number as my supplier sometimes will add a letter or number depending on the production batch.
The symptoms of one or two bad Mosfets are sometimes full speed on with no variable speed. Blown Fuse immediately when turn on power switch sometimes. Sometimes no motor movement or irratic motor movement.
I suggest not using your Mini Lathe anymore until this part is replaced to prevent damage to other parts.
ATTENTION:
THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF MINI LATHES NOT WORKING CORRECTLY IS ONE OR BOTH MOSFETS GONE BAD OR WEAK.
